The 411 Seniors Centre is an easily accessible, multi-purpose social and recreational drop in facility for seniors.Centrally located in downtown Vancouver, the Centre offers a variety of programs, services and special projects for seniors. It also houses several Associate Members who directly or indirectly work with seniors. The Centre is directed by the 411 Seniors Centre Society, with a Board of Directors, a small staff and a number of volunteers.
Charity History:
In 1971, the provincial executive of the Seniors Citizens Association of BC approached the provincial government regarding a “rest and refreshment” facility for older people who were in downtown Vancouver for the day to attend doctors’ appointments, and for other reasons. Because of its central downtown location and its proximity to the bus depot, 411 Dunsmuir Street was suggested as the ideal spot!
Further Information:
Some of the services provided by the Society’s Information and Referral department include peer to peer counselling and support, information and referral to other community and government agencies, outreach counselling services, as well as free income tax and simple will preparation. |
